Meditation for April 16th

It Happened Once (Based on Acts 4:32-35)

Get some food for the children from our pantry.
Let me take you to the doctor in our car.
Use some of our money for the rent.
Find some clothes for that interview in our closet.
Come out of the cold and sleep in our house.

Throw that food out, it's got freezer burn.
You polished your car; it's raining; now you want me to take the bus?
You wasted your money on what?
That shelf can support only 50 lbs; you've got to get rid of some clothes.
They just can't drop by and expect me to roll out the red carpet!

"Now the whole group of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one claimed private ownership of any possessions, but everything they owned was held in common . . . There was not a needy person among them, for as many as owned lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold." (Acts 4:32, 34 NRSV)

Once, first century Christians shared freely. And now?
